IT'S A MATTER OF SAFETY

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Here at Meadowlark Elementary we consider the safety of our children a top priority.  It is our desire to provide a safe and effective environment where all students can learn and interact.  As a matter of safety, it is important that you understand and follow a few important procedures that will help ensure that we can indeed provide a safe environment.  Please read the following procedures and share them with your child.  Remember that these are for the safety of YOUR child.

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
Meadowlark has provided a drop-off and pick-up lane in front of our building.  All students should enter and exit vehicles from the passenger side of the vehicle along the sidewalk in the yellow section.  Vehicles should always pull as far to the front of this area as possible before allowing students to depart or enter the vehicle.  It is possible to handle as many as 9 - 10 vehicles at a time.  Remember that there is NO PARKING in the YELLOW zone.  If you wish to park, please use the spaces that are not zoned in yellow.  

Emergency Contact Information
Please make sure that you are diligent in providing the school up to date emergency contact information.  Please provide for us your most current home, cell and work numbers.  We realize that information can change throughout the year.  Please help us by updating information when changes occur.

Arranging / Notifying Changes in Transportation Plans
We understand that transportation plans can change over the course of the day.  Parents must notify the office of any changes.  If your child is transported by bus, they will be expected to board the bus to the day care unless you have contacted us either in writing or by phone.  Also, please contact the daycare center.  If you notify us by phone, you must do so before 2:30 p.m. in order for us to appropriately communicate the change to your student.  We do not allow students to use the office phone to arrange after school social activities.  Please discuss with your child appropriate expectations and procedures for arranging social time after school.

School Safety Plan
Our school safety plan includes evacuation and lockdown procedures.  We teach specific expectations to all students should an evacuation or lockdown be required.  We will be practicing our safety procedures during the first few weeks of school to ensure that all students are aware and understand how to respond should the need arise.

Our school safety plan requires all visitors to our campus to check in with the office and wear a visitor badge while on campus.

Please enter and exit the building through the front doors as other entrances will be locked during the school day.

Also, if you are visiting, please do not go straight to the playground if your child is outside for recess.  Our supervisors are will be looking for a Meadowlark visitor badge should you go out on the playground.  You first must check in at the office.
