Mrs. Kim Humphrey
Hi! I am so excited to be part of the Meadowlark Team! Most importantly, I am THRILLED to be your child's teacher! It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures. I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us.
I was born and raised in Bayard, NE and I’m the oldest of five girls! When I was a child, I remember creating roads in the dirt, making mud pies, and fishing in the creek. My days were filled with catching tadpoles and bringing home baby kittens (they were really baby skunks)! I played school every day and made my sisters join in. When I graduated from High School, I attended Kearney State College and majored in Elementary Education. I could not wait to start teaching. I hold a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from UNK. GO LOPERS!!
My husband, Mitch and I raised three wonderful children who went to Northeast and Meadowlark Schools and attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. GO HUSKERS! Tyler and Brittany, Amber and Mike, Brandt and Jessica with our grandson, Axel, make us so proud and blessed. At home we love our two cocker spaniels; Bleu and Jaycee, and cat; MauMau Kitty.
I have taught Kindergarten in Potter, NE. where I taught kindergarten students all day. The students loaded the bus at 6:30 a.m. and a one hour nap was required by the State of Nebraska. There were one or two days where I think I may have fallen asleep with the kids. Haha! Back in the day, no one had ever heard of All-Day Kindergarten. Also, I have taught 4th & 5th grade Chapter Math at Kenwood, Emerson, & Bryant; kindergarten at Kenwood Elementary, and Preschool for nine years. I have been teaching since 1981. WOW!!
I love teaching Kindergarten and instilling an early enthusiasm for learning that stays with the students for life. I love watching students grow and love their invitations to watch them participate in activities and sporting events. As a kindergarten teacher, I will build a strong educational and social emotional foundation for those young minds.
Every day of kindergarten will bring about new developments, new challenges and many times a funny event or phrase that will make you laugh. Young children are curious. At no time in life is curiosity more powerful than in early childhood education. Curiosity grows from the safe and familiar.
I love embracing the unexpected parts of life, and celebrating it! Together we will get to experience groundbreaking moments with the Kindergarten students. This may include beginning to read for the first time, learning to write their names correctly, finally making sense out of numbers, or successfully tying our shoes. I love, love, love, molding young and inquisitive minds for the future. It is indeed a job, but it has also been my life calling.
Thank you for being a part of this new adventure!
