A Little About Me...
My name is Amanda Swift and I will be teaching 5th grade at Meadowlark this coming year. I am super excited about our upcoming school year in KPS. This year we are going to develop our math and problem-solving skills, work as scientists and collaborators, become stronger readers and writers, and become middle school and college and career ready. I believe in giving a lot of choices in how students share their learning through project-based learning/backward-designed projects, cooperative groups/tasks, and peer work opportunities in all of our learning areas.
I am excited to join KPS and Meadowlark and I am very excited to partner with a great team of teachers, students, families, and a supportive community. I am a certified teacher, with many years of experience and have seen the benefits and knowledge that kids take away with them from the classroom. Most of my experience in the classroom is in upper elementary 3rd-5th grade, but I also have been a teacher leader/coach, reading specialist, and art teacher in past years.
I come to you by way of Denver, Colorado but grew up in Northern Illinois. I am one of five kids and grew up on a forty acre farm. I met my husband, Brent, in Alaska, and we have two golden retrievers, named Spark Plug and Taters, that we love dearly and adore. We have one son, Henry Aaron, 3 years old, who our outside world revolves around. I graduated college in 2002 from Western Illinois University with my Bachelors in Education and in 2013 with my Master's in Education in Reading and Literature. I have additional certifications in gifted and talented education. I moved to Colorado in 2006 where I took my first teaching job in Denver Public Schools as a 3rd grade teacher. Since then, I have dedicated myself to becoming the best teacher that I can be and I look forward to your help our students to continue to become better, as well.
